Jake's Impressions - Day 4

The next morning we got up and went swimming for about an hour. We went to get breakfast after that. I got scrambled eggs and toast. I also had fruit salad; it had papaya, watermelon, pineapple and a lime slice. We went jalan-jalan (walking) down Monkey Forest Road. I saw monkeys on shop roofs. We walked back to Sri and Made (mah-day) was already waiting for us. We rushed around and gathered all our stuff and packed it in the car. We drove to Penestanan Road. Made's wife Kadek carried one of the duffles to the bungalow on her head! We unpacked and put on temple clothes. I had to lead the way to the ceremony. We didn't stay there very long.

Bali - Day 2

It is day 2 in Bali and I want to go swimming before breakfast, but it is still being discussed. Finally! Wish granted! We swam for about 15 minutes so that we didn't blow our time for breakfast.

For breakfast I had a banana pancake and hot tea. Now we had a time limit. 11:00 was our goal, because our friend Made was going to pick us up from Sri and take us to Londo Bungalows where we will stay for most of the time we are in Bali.

When we got to Londo, we picked oiur bedrooms, unpacked our bags and went out to dinner later.

The Flight

Ding! "Will all passengers and flight crew fasten your seatbelts. We will be beginning our final approach into New York JFK airport." As we descend into New York, I try to look for the Statue of Liberty, but I couldn't find her. Once we got into the airport, we got McDonalds for dinner and then looked around in the duty-free shop.

Later on the plane, I watched a movie (I don't remember which one), had dinner and went to sleep. Before I went to sleep, I looked out the window and saw a beautiful rainbow sunset.

Jake's Impressions - Day 3

I woke up to see mom and Macaela up and watching TV and movies. We were still over the Atlantic. I put on my headphones and watched a movie. There weren't many that I had seen. Well, that's enough about the plane trip.

We arrived at Denpasar airport in Bali. We waited in the immigration line for 10-15 minutes. We claimed our bags and went to find our driver, who packed our suitcases in the car and took us to Ubud. We went to Sri Bungalows and unpacked. Then we went and asked Made out to dinner at Murni's. It was Thanksgiving, so we had a big dinner. After dinner we went back to Sri and went to bed.

Finally in Bali - Day 1

Happy Thanksgiving! We arrived in Bali around noon, glad to see our flying trip was over. Once we had our bags and had gotten out of the airport, we found our "transport man." He loaded our bags and drove us to Sri (shree) Bungalows in Ubud (oo-bood). After showering and changing our clothes, we headed over to Londo Bungalows to invite our friends Made (mah-day), Kadek, Putu, and the new baby Kadek Vika to Thanksgiving dinner at Murni's. I ate chicken schnitzel and had a strawberry milkshake.

Hey, by the way, everyone in the US is half a day behind us, so for tomorrow - Happy Thanksgiving!

Jake's Impressions - Day 2

There really wasn't a day 2 becaused we crossed the International Date Line, so I guess we slept through it.

Jake's Impressions - Day 1

Today is the day! I left school in the middle of science. I had just lost my tooth. My mom was waiting in the office. We had to rush to Macaela's school and pick her up. Meanwhile at the bank, my grandmother was having some problems. As we rushed over there, we lost more time; we had to get mom's car to the mechanic! On the way, Groome called. They were at my house. As we rushed back I got more excited. When we got home we rushed because we were late.

When we got to the airport, we unloaded, checked in, and got to the gate. Our flight left in about half an hour. It took 20-30 minutes to get to New York, JFK. (mom's note - actually about 45 minutes) We spent five and a half hours in JFK, When we got on the plane, we waited to be taxied to the take-off point. It got faster and faster! Then we finally took off. Flight attendants gave us hot towels. Oh, and we are flying Singapore Airlines.

Waiting to Leave

Tick, tock, tick, tock . . . I watched the clock as 11:00 got nearer. Tick, tock, tick, tock, ding! It was 11:00 as I ran out of the school building, and my heart was racing too. I ran through the list of words and names to remember as we drove to the airport. On the plane, Ibu told me I should rest. I haven't flown in three years, so I was too excited to sleep.

Have fun in the cold weather and keep warm!

Before the Trip

It is two days before our trip and we are finishing our packing. I'm finishing projects for school even though they aren't due yet. I'm feeling kind of nervous because I haven't flown in three years. I hope I'll have a fun time in Bali like I usually do. So to all of my friends, Happy Thanksgiving, and I'll see you in December!
